it’s official! Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area has officially merged with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the North Bay. Now a unified organization serving children from all nine counties in the Greater Bay Area — Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, Santa Clara, San Francisco, San Mateo, Solano, and Sonoma — our combined programs and staff will centralize key functions and operations to improve program efficiency and reach.
Headquartered in San Francisco, we retain all local offices in Oakland, Milpitas, San Rafael and American Canyon. Most of the North Bay staff join Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area and all staff will continue to support our adult volunteers and families, providing oversight to our ongoing programs. They will also continue to recruit new volunteer Bigs according to the diverse needs of each of our regions, and will work with each new and continuing match to provide ongoing support.
The decision to merge has come after many months of discussions and due diligence by the Boards and senior staff of both organizations. We welcome the addition to our Board and Staff, which will provide the organization with resources, broader skills, stronger relationships, and an increased ability to serve children and families in the region.
We are committed to ensuring the continuance of our mentorship model as we join forces to better serve our Bay Area community. We are excited about increasing our program, administrative and fund development capacity through our combined organization. Most importantly, we will have the ability to serve more youth through locally-managed programs with the support of a strong, unified board, executive team, and staff.
