Scottie’s Place

Keeping Scottie’s memory and service to others alive

Honoring the memory of
Scott Christian Garrigan

(April 15, 1985-February 20, 2011)

Scott Christian Garrigan’s life was cut short by a drunk driver on February 20, 2011 and our lives will never be the same. He was a wonderful young man; a devoted and generous son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, boyfriend, friend, and coworker. He touched many lives in so many positive ways and made us so proud. Scottie’s Place is our way of honoring his memory, his service to others, and the way he chose to live his life.

Anyone who knew Scott knew that he had a huge heart. His generosity extended beyond his immediate family and friends – the kindness of his caring spirit knew no bounds. Those close to him can attest to what a truly and genuinely good person he was, but many were not aware of all he did for people he barely knew.

He bought Christmas presents for needy children; took kids to the movies or other Bay Area events; he visited patients in the hospital and convalescent homes, playing chess or checkers with them, talking or just quietly sitting by their bedside while they rested. He visited prisoners, taking them books and other items to make their time spent in jail a little easier. Scott lived a life of service to others, never boosting or bragging about his kind actions and never expecting anything in return.

In short, Scott was all about doing good and helping others simply for the sake of doing good. He was very generous and caring to others and never judged. He loved and lived life to the fullest, constantly looking for ways to improve the lives of others, especially those who needed it most.

If you knew Scott, you knew he always had bigger and better plans and always thought to include others. Those closest to him knew of his goals and dreams for his future, and can only imagine the lives he would have impacted if his hadn’t been tragically cut short. In a small but important way Scottie’s Place keeps those dreams alive, helping to provide the opportunity and support for volunteer mentors to touch the lives of disadvantaged youth throughout the Bay Area through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
