Supporting Sparks & Interests
Every young person has dreams. They need a mentor to identify sparks and nurture their passions into plans.
“Conor knew I was really into art, so anything he could find, from classes to museums, he would tell me about it. During COVID, he knew I wasn’t drawing as much anymore, so he found me this figure painting class to get me back into it. Conor has always been there for me when I needed someone.” —Michael, Little

For nearly 70 years, we have been dedicated to serving the Bay Area, witnessing firsthand the transformational power of mentorship in young people’s lives. This year, a groundbreaking study by leading researchers from Harvard University and the U.S. Department of Treasury highlighted the profound impact of our program model on the socioeconomic trajectories of youth, underscoring its significance in shaping brighter futures.
Rooted in three decades of data, the study followed youth enrolled in Big Brothers Big Sisters and discovered that mentorship delivers long-lasting benefits. While previous studies suggest youth must fully change their social environment to increase economic opportunity, this study is the first to identify community mentorship as a low-cost solution that offers the same incredible results.
